Story of the American Bison Boot

The Bison Boot is in a class of its own. It’s made with American Bison hides that are each unique like the legendary animal itself. Slipping your feet in the Bison Boots is an experience in itself, as the leather forms to your foot instantly. The perfect balance between form and function, the Bison boot is in a class of its own.

In 2011 we built a timber frame factory in the woods of Maine. We found the old timers to show us the old ways. We did what had to be done. We dug deep in the ground and in our hearts. We brought back what was forgotten. The people remembered why they used to be makers. “The world’s best”, that’s what American Made used to mean. Here’s the secret... it still does.

All our leather is tanned right here in Maine, 45 minutes from the Origin boot factory. We source our materials and components close to home. From brass eyelets, to laces and thread, everything is sourced domestically. Proving the American supply chain is still very much alive. Have comfort that your boots are 100% Made in America, without compromise.

American Bison are a unique untamed animal. Each hide therefore is also unique, and varies in shade, and character.

    Quality boots

Posted by Jeff Loyless on Jan 29th 2021

I've had my boots for 1 week. Out of the box they look very nice and well made. Takes a few days to break in but are getting more comfortable. I utilized the size chart on the website and the boots fit great. I enjoy the look and feel of these boots for everyday wear. The only thing I'm considering is swapping insoles for added comfort. Thank you!

    My favorite boots

Posted by Cole Escover on Jan 23rd 2021

I'm in-between 11 and 11.5 so I bought the 11.5s to be safe and they fit well enough but going down a bit would have been better. Regardless, I own red wing iron rangers and moc toe (both also American made, and I think sourced), both of which are also similarly priced. I expected the red wings to be better considering they have been making boots much longer but I find myself always going for my bison boots when I head out. Although I prefer them, my one grievance is the poron insole, since I do really like the leather insoles on my red wings and leather insoles will get better with time where poron degrades. I'll probably just replace it with leather when it gets old but for now it is comfortable. 10/10, 100% worth it, I walked past a bald eagle while wearing these boots and it saluted me.

    Great boots.

I have been wearing these everyday since they got here. They break in very fast, and are comfortable. I have been treating them with otter wax and they hold up well in the wet/ snowy conditions. Any scratches buff right out with wax and a brush. The craftsmanship is incredible. Only thing I would change is the sole i picked, but overall these are top notch.

These boots are a blessing. I was looking for a good pair of new boots. I had gotten fed up with issues with my Danners. These truly are amazing and break in really well.

Great build, less enthusiastic about the sole...

Just got these boots after an 8-9 week wait! Before I share my dislike, I’ll share what I do like. These boots are certainly high quality and they feel like it when I lace them up. Takes a good week or two for break in. I ordered mine with the Christy sole because I wanted a comfortable sole for office work and outdoor work. I found that in the Christy, but at the expense of grip. Origin said the Christy is soft, a 45-50 on the Shore A scale, which does make them easier to walk on all day and forgiving on the feet; however, the tread pattern is extremely shallow and nowhere near knobby enough, providing almost no grip on rocks, my Jeep’s step rail (which has grip of its own, yet I’ve slipped multiple times in these boots), or icy/wet ground. The lack of traction/grip is very similar to a Vans or Chuck Taylor shoe. I’d recommend that Origin reevaluate the Christy sole with some deeper tread because the pattern is wonderful and aggressive in style, but not as utilitarian and grippy as I’d expected. I’ll be reaching out to customer service for options.

Comfortable right out of the box, broke in wicked quick, and they are taking the abuse of a UPS driver well

    The American Bison Boot

Very happy with the bison boot. Comfortable out of the box and fits great. Dresses up well but also a great work boot. Have had the boots for 4 months and use them often! Thinking of trying another boot soon.
